Selma Blair and Saint Laurent Paris Duffle 6 Bag

I remembered her very well when she was in 'Legally Blonde' as Vivian and it was like 12 years ago! Wow, time flies really really fast.

Here she was spotted doing grocery shopping by carrying Saint Laurent Duffle 6 bag in sunny yellow. Beautiful yellow colour indeed and perfect for summer.
To be honest, I am still on the fence about this Duffle bag designed by Hedi Slimane. But I adore her choice of colour for bright yellow. It has inspired me to find a perfect nice yellow bag. In my case, a yellow Goyard St Louis PM has been on my top wish list. But who knows that one day I change my mind.

Price USD1990

My favourite clutch: Saint Laurent Y Clutch

My clutch collection has been very minimum and I have been thinking to slowly grow my collection. My wish is to have few clutches in several neutral/basic colours (thinking of black, beige, red and blue).

When I saw YSL Chyc clutch in YSL store last year (and it is now labeled as Saint Laurent Y clutch), I knew for sure that the clutch would meet my basic requirements, i.e. the clutch is big enough that a continental wallet can go inside it and its magnetic closure would make it easy to open. Yet I just held the thought of buying it as I had other bags on my top wishlist.

But this year I can not wait any longer, so I decided to get the clutch. Two clutches.
I am now excited to share my recent Saint Laurent Paris haul: Y clutch in red and light beige. The red one is in texture leather while the light beige is in smooth leather.

Most of the time, the clutch will accompany me for attending wedding reception. For such an event, I will carry basic stuffs like bellow and leave everything else at home (no power bank for instance):

Bottega Veneta continental wallet (the wallet is thin enough so it can easily fit inside the clutch), mirror, lipstick from Bobbi Brown, smart phone and a green pouch as a tissue pouch.

The green pouch has tissue (wet and dry) inside

A roomy clutch

Saint Laurent Paris Cabas Classique Y in blue

About 3 weeks ago, I gave a teaser on my latest Saint Laurent purchase (check here). But then I was on a long hiatus as I was out of town for more than 2 weeks. So without further ado, I am super excited to reveal my latest Saint Laurent joy, a Cabas Classique Y in bleu de France (this style was formerly known as Chyc Cabas Medium during Stefano Pilati's era).

While I am not so sure about Hedi Slimane's latest duffle bag (check here when I was seriously contemplating Saint Laurent  duffle bag), I never have any doubt about this bag. I already own a Chyc Cabas medium in green from the previous/first version of Chyc Cabas (i.e. the original creation of Mr. Pilati with Y accent panels). Therefore getting another one (in new version and pop colour) seems like a normal conduct for me lol.

What I like most about this bag is the leather and hardware. The leather is very luxurious and the new square-ish hardware has given a sleeker and more modern look. I notice that the removal of accent panels that create the 'Y' outline may cause the bag feels slouchier (this is also due to smoother leather used) as it becomes less structured. However this is not an issue for me as most of the time I carried the Chyc Cabas medium over my shoulder, hence the slouchier the more comfortable.

As expected the craftsmanship is excellent, and please note that the bag is made from full leather. It means that there is no cotton lining used when crafting the bag. In bag is lined in leather (suede). So please imagine when you open your bag you can also get the sensation of luxurious leather 'smell' lol. Well, this is the same sensation that I experienced with my first Celine mini luggage. Please beware that the nice leather smell is simply seductive and addicted lol.

Guess what, by the time I post this story to my blog I am already drooling over the new colour of Saint Laurent Classique Cabas Y in emerald green which was recently released in the website. I think I should make a separate post for this gorgeous green bag. And now please excuse me to review and revisit my bag wishlist.

Kate Moss and Saint Laurent Paris Classic Duffle 6 bag

Kate Moss was seen carrying Saint Laurent Paris Classic Duffle 6 bag. The bag was almost unrecognizable since the front bag (with SLP logo) was facing her body. But a true YSL/SLP fans should be able to recognize Duffle 6 bag's distinguished hardwares on its handles. It's the thin square hardwares that give the bag a 'sleek' and 'minimalist' look.

The bag and Kate Moss look chic and I like the bag's smooth leather finish. I think the bag grows on me gradually now. But I still have to see the bag in real life before making any decision :)

By the time I make this post, the bag is still available at YSL.com for an immediate purchase at USD2,150.

Saint Laurent Paris Petit Cabas Y

Image from ysl.com

Image from ysl.com
I have been on the fence with the new YSL chyc cabas or now I must say it as "Saint Laurent petit cabas Y". The reason is that I miss the Y stitching panel on the old chyc cabas.
But when I checked the new bag in person in local YSL or SLP store, I have to admit that the bag is a winner. I experienced a moment when my heart skipped a beat lol. I instantly adored the leather (smoother) and its sleek hardwares. And I think the size is just perfect for a daily bag and its long strap is very handy.

The bag sold out quickly in SLP local store especially for black, electric blue, purple and fuchsia *sigh*

Until now I still can not decide the colour that I should get ... purple or red
Surely it is going to be a tough decision for me to take lol

Gwyneth Paltrow and Saint Laurent Duffle Bag

In the previous post I featured Ms. Paltrow carrying the bag as a cross body bag, and I was not so convinced seeing the bag hanging and loosing its beautiful shape.

Yet, here Ms. Paltrow had the bag handcarried and the Saint Laurent Duffle bag looks awesome and chic.

The transformation of YSL Chyc Cabas

I am still weeping over the change of YSL into SLP *hiks* I simply missed its 'Y' logo which has made YSL so unique among other high end brands.

One of the YSL handbags that I constantly covet is the iconic Chyc Cabas (other than the Easy bag). I have one Chyc Cabas in green that I can repeatedly appraise for the overall design and quality of craftsmanship. And I do still keep a wishlist for the Small Chyc Cabas (that comes with longstrap) and hope to own one next year *fingers crossed*. But when I recently browsed around the YSL website I noticed that there has been major changes on Chyc Cabas look. I was very surprised! Well, obviously the changes must be commissioned by Mr. Hedi Slimane, the new YSL creative director.

The obvious changes that will be easily noticed are the (new) clochette, (thicker and square-ish) hardware for handles and zipper pull and (the missing) accent panels that create a "Y" outline (see above photos for bags on the right). One thing that remains is the big and bold Y hardware logo *Thanks God*

And before the latest Chyc Cabas look, there is a Chyc Cabas in transition that still incorporates the old design (i.e. the accent panels that create 'Y' outline) yet has applied new and sleeker hardware design. See the bag in the middle on above photos.

If I have to choose only one Chyc Cabas, then it must be the Chyc Cabas in transition. What I like the most about this 'bag in the middle' is that it has applied new hardware, especially on the handles and zipper pull, yet the old YSL feels is still there. Though I still can accept and adore the first generation of Chyc Cabas which will soon become extinct *hello Santa, please visit my bag blog and read my wishlist!*

The description of the new Chyc petite Cabas in YSL website is as follows

Tubular top handle bag with external leather pouch with enclosed key ring.
  • Calfskin with leather lining
  • Removable shoulder strap
  • 2 slot pockets
  • Double zip closure, gold-toned "Y" buckle and metal protective feet
  • Style ID: 311210 BJ50J 1000
  • Dimensions: 12" x 8.5" x 6", Drop 4"
  • Made in Italy

One last thing that I have to note down is the major price transformation. Before Mr. Slimane came, the small chyc cabas was priced usd1850, yet now the sleeker and more minimalist small chyc cabas (or now called Chyc petite Cabas) would cost us usd2350 *oouch*

Gwyneth Paltrow and Saint Laurent Duffle Bag

In my humble opinion, the bag does not look elegant/nice when it is worn with its long strap. The side parts (where the long straps are attached to the main body) looks wrinkle and the bag simply looses its classic and ellegant shape.

This is something to do with the design (where to put the ring to attach the long strap) or the leather used. It seems that the supple leather may not be the right choice for this design.

But hey, maybe Mr. Sliman has his own justification or interpretation when he designed this duffle bag.

Anyway, what I love most from these pictures is Gwyneth's huge diamond ring in princess cut.

Saint Laurent Paris Duffel Bag

I have been a loyal YSL fans in the past 3 years. The iconic YSL's Easy bag has been in my wardrobe for around 3 years. And not only had them in my bag collection but I used them quite often.

Now the brand name (and logo) has been changed to Saint Laurent Paris, under the direction of Hedi Slimane, the new creative director. So, the brand is now often called as SLP.

Of course when a new guy comes, some changes will take place (the brand name/logo has gone a drastic change obviously). New bag designs will be introduced and this small duffel bag is the first Mr. Slimane's creation available in the website.

I have a mixed feeling for this bag. I adore the bright colours that the bag offers and believe that the leather must be very soft. Yet the design is not something new. Bag lovers will easily make comments that the SLP duffel bag looks like Louis Vuitton Sofia Coppola bag or Speedy Bandouliere. And I agree on that. But this duffel bag look is actually a classic design that can be interpreted differently by various brands. SLP for sure makes or interpretes it into minimalist design. Then it would draw more comments that the design is like a new Celine (the logo embossed on the front bag for instance looks like Celine logo/font). I hope that Mr. Slimane has made sound consideration and judgement when he instructed the change on name, logo and font. To be honest, I love the previous YSL bold logo but I wish to see more of Mr Slimane's bag designs and maybe the new logo would looks better and nicer to the overall design that he soon introduces.

I also noticed that the price under new SLP name has increased from the previous YSL bags' price ranges (to illustrate, YSL small chyc cabas that has similar size to this duffel bag is usd1850). In order to justify whether this bag is truly worth investing, one must check and see it by herself. And definitely I have to see it before a decision is made.

The description from the YSL website is as follows:

Signature Saint Laurent duffel bag with tubular handles, removable shoulder strap and key ring pouch.
  • Calfskin leather with suede lining
  • Exterior pocket with magnetic closure
  • Interior zip pocket, 2 slot pockets
  • Brass feet, double zip closure
  • Style ID: 314704 BOF0J 1000
  • Dimensions: 12" x 10.5" x 7", Drop 4.5"
  • Made in Italy

Price USD2150 and by the time I made this post, this bag has to be pre-ordered

The saga (er, the obsession) is not over yet!

The bag screams 'CHIC' loudly. Definitely I will put this on my (bag) wishlist!
