The transformation of YSL Chyc Cabas

I am still weeping over the change of YSL into SLP *hiks* I simply missed its 'Y' logo which has made YSL so unique among other high end brands.

One of the YSL handbags that I constantly covet is the iconic Chyc Cabas (other than the Easy bag). I have one Chyc Cabas in green that I can repeatedly appraise for the overall design and quality of craftsmanship. And I do still keep a wishlist for the Small Chyc Cabas (that comes with longstrap) and hope to own one next year *fingers crossed*. But when I recently browsed around the YSL website I noticed that there has been major changes on Chyc Cabas look. I was very surprised! Well, obviously the changes must be commissioned by Mr. Hedi Slimane, the new YSL creative director.

The obvious changes that will be easily noticed are the (new) clochette, (thicker and square-ish) hardware for handles and zipper pull and (the missing) accent panels that create a "Y" outline (see above photos for bags on the right). One thing that remains is the big and bold Y hardware logo *Thanks God*

And before the latest Chyc Cabas look, there is a Chyc Cabas in transition that still incorporates the old design (i.e. the accent panels that create 'Y' outline) yet has applied new and sleeker hardware design. See the bag in the middle on above photos.

If I have to choose only one Chyc Cabas, then it must be the Chyc Cabas in transition. What I like the most about this 'bag in the middle' is that it has applied new hardware, especially on the handles and zipper pull, yet the old YSL feels is still there. Though I still can accept and adore the first generation of Chyc Cabas which will soon become extinct *hello Santa, please visit my bag blog and read my wishlist!*

The description of the new Chyc petite Cabas in YSL website is as follows

Tubular top handle bag with external leather pouch with enclosed key ring.
  • Calfskin with leather lining
  • Removable shoulder strap
  • 2 slot pockets
  • Double zip closure, gold-toned "Y" buckle and metal protective feet
  • Style ID: 311210 BJ50J 1000
  • Dimensions: 12" x 8.5" x 6", Drop 4"
  • Made in Italy

One last thing that I have to note down is the major price transformation. Before Mr. Slimane came, the small chyc cabas was priced usd1850, yet now the sleeker and more minimalist small chyc cabas (or now called Chyc petite Cabas) would cost us usd2350 *oouch*

Longchamp FW 2012 Collection

Le Pliage Cuir

Burgundy - Taupe
Camel - Gun Metal

Duck Blue - Red
Black - Fir

Le Pliage

Burgundy - Moss
Orange - Duck Blue

Fir - Bilberry
Taupe - Chocolate

Navy - Camel
Graphite - Red

LM

Old Gold - Burgundy
Black

Animal prints Le Pliage

Planetes

Ebony - Black

Victoire

Burgundy - Gun Metal

In this post I have summarized my favourite lines from Longchamp and its FW 2012 colours.
If during last season (SS 2012) I was so attracted to Le Pliage Cuir series, then things turned out differently now. The Le Plieage Cuir from current season simply does not attract me. The colours look muted and so 'winter'. I much prefer its SS 2012 bright and bold colours (those orange and cyclamen pink are so irresistable).

From this FW 2012 collection, I adore its LM series and croc-print Le Pliage.
So if I have to choose one or two, then I will opt LM in old gold (just because I have owned LM burgundy) and croc-print Le Pliage in duck blue.

Chanel Outstanding Pieces in Alligator

Classic flap bag in alligator

Gusset zip wallet in alligator

From Chanel's FW 2012/2013 pre-collection, these two items are my favourite. Made from alligator leather, the bag and wallet look luxurious and very beautiful.

When the leather used for a bag is exotic enough and finished beautiful, a simple bag design is the best thing to be considered. So when the iconic Chanel's flap bag is made from such exquisite leather, the final result is undoubtfully an outstanding piece.

YSL Chyc Cabas Medium in Dark Green

I am sooooo excited!
I have been drooling over Chyc Cabas for a month and decided to take the plunge and join the Chyc Club.

I am proudly presenting my latest baby, Chyc Cabas Medium in Dark Green (vert fonce).
Although initially I was looking at the Chyc Cabas small with strap (see my previous post here), but I finally took the medium size. In my opinion, the medium size looks proportional and more elegant. Further I already have several bags with long strap. So, the Chyc Cabas medium was the winner. Although it is best to be hand carried, but I can still wear it over the shoulder. Therefore, this has been a good news for me *grin*

As always, YSL makes excellent leather and this is not an exception. The leather used for Chyc Cabas is scratch/rubs resistant (not as prone as Balenciaga for sure). It can slouch nicely (when worn over the shoulder) yet it still gives a good structure when the bag is hand carried.

Then when talking about the colour, this green is unique. I saw it for the first time in the website, and it did not attract me. Yet in real life, it is a gorgeous and classic green. I fell in love immediately with this green bag (Note that I am more a pink-purple person usually). The gold hardware is the best match and it really has brightened the green tone.

I guess this bag will be a keeper (just like my YSL Easy) and I can imagine that Chyc Cabas medium is also great for travelling (considering the size and leather quality).

Now I have started thinking the next colour that I should get LOL

Fergie and Celine Phantom Cabas

While I am still contemplating whether to put this bag on my wishlist, Fergie has been seen toting the latest Celine bag, Phantom Cabas, which should be part of Winter 2012 Collection.

I have seen the bag only from the pictures recently released by Celine. And now seeing the picture of Fergie carrying it, the bag looks b.i.g. on her (her height is 5ft 2.5in). I am not sure if the big-sized and slouchy tote will be suitable for my petite frame (5ft 1 in). For the time being I will keep the bag aside (off my wish list) until I have the chance to try it in person.

Celine Winter 2012: these bags are on my watch list

If I have to choose only one, then I will pick the multicolour trapeze with red (suede?) flap.
One can never have enough red bags, I have to say. Red is such a classic pop colour and it does not look boring at all.
